Colorado Springs was founded in August 1871 by General William Palmer with the intention of creating a high quality resort community, and was soon nicknamed "Little London" because of the many English tourists who came.

Colorado Springs, CO is the second most populous city in the state of Colorado. There were around 460,000 people living in city limits in 2009.The elevation of Colorado Springs is 6,035 feet (or 1840 meters) above the sea level. So drink plenty of water when you first arrive. Colorado Springs is located 65 miles south of Denver; it's about an hour drive along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains.
